Police have seized more than $1.7 million in cash in regional WA, believed to have been headed for the state border.

A man was stopped in Southern Cross by officers who found the massive sum of money in the boot of his rented car.

Police Commissioner Col Blanch told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the driver was carrying the cash back to New South Wales as part of an organised crime transaction involving drugs.

“[Police officers near the state border] have had successful, tremendous results of serious drug and cash seizures many, many times because we do target organised crime with intelligence,” Commissioner Blanch said.
