$3 billion wasted on ‘broken’ Medicare system
A government review has shown up to $3 billion is lost through Medicare every year due to fraud, non-compliance with guidelines and other issues.
Health economist and former Secretary of Victoria’s Department of Health and Human Services Doctor Pradeep Philip told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Mornings there are various issues that need to be fixed, including limiting doctor’s abilities to flaunt the rules.
“Like any industry, there are a few rotten apples, so we need a system that can identify errors in the system and weed out those rotten apples,” Dr Philip said.
