The annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada Desert is a rite of initiation for many, but suffering through a quagmire of impenetrable mud is probably not what they were expecting.

One person has died and tens of thousands have been forced to trek for more than 10 kilometres to reach safety as heavy rains jeapordise the event.

6PR and Nine US correspondent Lauren Tomasi told Millsy and Karl onĀ 6PR Breakfast the remoteness of the location is making it very difficult for emergency services to reach those in need.

“The rain has just been teeming down; it’s created such a situation even Joe Biden has been briefed on it,” Ms Tomasi said.
