Nurses at Fiona Stanley Hospital have clocked up 24 hour shifts on Wednesday this week due to critically low staff numbers.

Australian Nursing Federation State Secretary Janet Reah told Oliver Peterson on 6PR Perth Live this crisis isn’t good news with an earlier and longer flu season expected this year.

“Unfortunately It looks like it’s already starting now and we’re already starting behind the 8-ball with chronic understaffing,” Ms Reah said.

“It’s very concerning when I learned that the intensive care unit at Fiona Stanley is actually 20  full time equivalent staff short”.
