WA paramedics will soon begin trialing slash-proof clothing and use body cameras in an attempt to curve the ramping violence they face in the field.

New figures reveal that paramedics are facing up to five aggressive confrontations a week on average, along with an increase in areas red-flagged as danger zones requiring paramedics to be accompanied by police.

United Workers Union National Ambulance Coordinator Fiona Scanlon told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast the levels of violence against emergency workers was “horrific”.

“The fact that these things even need to be considered is just a testament to the increase in the frequency of these types of events,” Ms Scanlon said.
