Banksia Hill guards threatened with jail time for speaking out
The union responsible for representing guards at Banksia Hill Detention Centre has rebuked the “heavy-handed” approach the Department of Justice are taken, as revealed by recently leaked emails.
Media obtained leaked emails from the DoJ warned guards they may be in violation of the Youth Offenders Act if they spoke about issues at the centre, a charge that potentially carries a $5000 fine and two year’s imprisonment
CPSU/CSA spokesperson Craig Parr told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings they didn’t appreciate the Department’s tactics, given the pressure prison guards are already under.
“Our members are well aware of their legal obligations to no discuss anything that’s confidential,” Mr Parr said.
