Almost all WA prison officers are ready to strike

The WA Prison Officers’ Union feels they are being thrown under the bus by the State Government, and say it’s one of the prime reasons 89 per cent of their members are ready for industrial action.

WAPOU Secretary Andy Smith told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings they had been battling with the government and Department of Corrective Services over wages, staff levels and prison conditions for two years.

“It was an absolute insult when the offer the Department of Corrective Services put to us contained changes to clauses that again attacked conditions and their safety,” Mr Smith said.
