Senior Players Critical in Building West Coast List
Amidst the calls from many to clear out the ageing legs at the West Coast Eagles, former defender Will Schofield has emphasised their importance in the rebuild of the list.
Speaking with Adam Papalia on Wide World of Sports, Schofield spoke of the importance experience will provide.
“What you get from them on the list is leadership. You get people who show these young kids how to act and operate.”
West Coast has been forced to expose many of its young players to AFL football earlier than they expected with the club enduring an horrific injury toll.

“I don’t think you need to cull every senior player out of the West Coast Eagles”.
“I think they’d be able to make unselfish decisions that would put the club in a better position to build the list anyway.”
Schofield even suggested potentially using them as coaches as the club makes its way through this transition period.
“Sign them on a hundred grand to a one year deal and get them to coach as well. You get a cheap coach”.
“They’re not mutually exclusive. You don’t need to cull them (older players) to build the list.”
