Hollywood actors go on strike over AI fears and streaming pay deals
Hollywood has now completely shut down with the American Acreen Actors Guild joining writers on the picket line.
Representatives from SAG-AFTRA – including Fran Drescher, Tina Fey and Fred Armisen – are asking studios to guarantee the industry will not be threatened by the growth of AI, as well as fairer contract deals.
6PR and Nine News US Correspondent Lauren Tomasi told Millsy and Karl on 6PR News the strike was sudden and impactful, with Cilian Murphy and Emily Blunt walking off the Oppenheimer premiere.
“The writers have already been off the job for two months now, so you’re looking at close to 200,000 actors and writers who are just refusing to play ball with Hollywood,” Ms Tomasi said.
