Taxi industry ‘at breaking point’ due to systemic corruption

An advocacy group representing WA taxi drivers has written to politicians across the country to warn them of the issues caused by illegitimate drivers taking advantage of the system.

President of the Taxi Drivers Group of WA Jonathan Masih told Gary Adshead the industry was nowhere near policed enough, leading to commuters being scammed and semi-legal student drivers “sleeping in their cars.”

“Nobody really takes any notice of it,” Mr Masih said.

“All the legitimate drivers are coming to me and complaining they’re making $90 dollars a night, which means after expenses they have nothing left.”
