The pressure is on Western Australian authorities to identify the cause of an oil spill impacting seabirds as the first rehabilitated pelicans are on track to be released.

IFAW Animal Rescue Officer Robert Leach spoke with Rusty Collett on 6PR’s Afternoons.

“It’s been really ramping up over the last couple of weeks that we’re seeing, I’ve got over 30 pelicans in care now between two different organisations,” Mr Leach said.

The seabirds were found covered in oil near Tonkin Drive in Furnissdale, Wellard Wetlands in Baldivis and Tern Island and Lake Richmond in Safety Bay.
