‘Barbaric’: Teenager given lesser sentence due to state of Banksia Hill
President of the WA Childrens Court Hylton Quail has handed down a 12-month sentence for a serious teenage serial offender, citing the ‘barbaric’ conditions of Banksia Hill Detention Centre as reason for a multi-year reduction in the boy’s sentence.
Dr Stephen Monterosso from Curtin’s Law School spoke with Oly Peterson on 6PR’s Perth Live.
“I think it’s a real concern if the judge has to make a decision like that and justify it then things aren’t fantastic that’s for sure,” Dr Monterosso said.
