Leaked documents have revealed plans to close down 13 community health centres across the southern suburbs in order to move services to the Murdoch health campus.

The centres, which are run by Child and Adolescent Health Services, provide general community care to young mothers and nurse check-ups for children.

Health Consumers’ Council Executive Director Clare Mullen told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast they had been aware of the plans for a while, and would be keeping an eye on how the plan rolled out.

“The importance of a nurturing atmosphere for children needs to be the focus here,” Ms Mullen said.

“You can’t deny the value of being able to pop along to a local centre, and these kinds of decision should be made with a full understanding of the impact on local communities.”
