The Collie Muja coal-fired power plant will delay its closure after a report revealed WA could face an energy shortfall by 2025.

Energy Minister Bill Johnston spoke with Oliver Peterson and provided the in-depth reasoning behind the delayed closure and future of WA energy.

“When we made the announcement four years ago we said we might adjust the dates if circumstances changed. The difference between four years ago and now is that four years ago the Australian Energy Market Operator wasn’t predicting load growth.”

Shadow Energy Minister Dr Steve Thomas says the State Government is in denial about the shambolic delivery of its energy transition plan and joined Oly Peterson on 6PR’s Perth Live.

“The transition that the government has put in place for energy does not work, will not work, and will leave the lights going off in years to come.”
