Most pianos hold up fine with a regular service by any qualified tuner, but concert pianos require a level of mastery which is becoming more and more difficult to find.

Paul Tunzi, Master Piano Technician-Artisan and Churchill Fellow spoke to Jamie Burnett on 6PR Weekends about his life’s work and trying to solve the problem of dwindling mastery and upholding the integrity of concert performance.

“I’ve dedicated my last half a dozen years to my life to finding an answer to this problem,” Mr Tunzi said.

Paul travelled to the ‘motherlands’ of piano development and production – from Italy, to Vienna to London – once landing himself in Buckingham Palace, in front of Queen Victoria’s gold-plated piano.
