A new report has revealed just how much financial pressure our elite athletes are facing, with more than half living below the poverty line.

Australian Sports Foundation CEO Patrick Walker told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast most Australians would be surprised by how tough Olympians are doing it.

“We’re all really happy to gather around the TV every few years to cheer on our boys and girls in green and gold, but we don’t know how they are struggling to get to that point,” Mr Walker said.

“It’s quite an eye-opener.”
