Legal experts are urging the government to install stronger penalties for owners of aggressive dogs, as attacks cause the hospitalisation of four people every day.

Cornerstone Legal has represented councils seeking prosecutions against the owners of dogs involved in attacks on more than 50 occasions in the past 18 months.

The Firm’s director Tim Houweling told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast studies show a carrot-and-stick method is what is needed to increase responsible dog ownership.

“I think anyone who has been chased by a dog will understand the concern; it is something that really worries people,” Mr Houweling said.
