Don’t worry if your cat glows – it’s pretty normal, new study finds
New research led by the West Australian Museum has determined that fluorescence amongst mammals is extremely common.
Western Australian Museum’s Curator of Mammalogy Dr Kenny Travouillon told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR’s Afternoons the fluorescent properties of mammals are useless to many of the creatures but could be used as a signalling mechanism among others.
“It may help brighten some part of the animal so they can see members of their species from a distance,” Travouillon said.
