The eruption of violence in Israel and Palestine has clearly raised emotions across the world, including in the states’ respective diasporas in Australia.

UNSW Israeli-Palestinian conflict expert Doctor Lana Tatour told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings there’s no doubt the events over the past two days are unprecedented, but they need to be understood within context.

“That is Decades of Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories including the Gaza Strip,” Dr Tatour said.

Executive Council of Australian Jewry Co-Chief Executive Alex Ryvchin said it’s the kind of worst-nightmare scenario present in a lot of people’s minds, even if they hoped it would never happen.

” Just the loss of life, the scale of it; the sadism, the enjoyment that people are taking the revelry. It’s been absolutely horrifying,” Mr Ryvchin said.
