After the invasion: Gaza’s future hangs in the balance

Article image for After the invasion: Gaza’s future hangs in the balance

As Israeli forces gather in huge numbers around the Gaza Strip, the future of the 5 by 12-kilometre piece of land comes under question.

Israel have stated numerous times they are not interested in controlling the Strip – likely due to the 2 million-plus population of Palestinians – yet it has to be governed by someone.

Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation research associate Ron Parat told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR MorningsĀ whoever ends up taking control would be a result of negotiations with Israel.

“Whoever takes over after Netanyahu will have to admit that a two-state solution is now very hard to achieve, irrespective of what happens in Gaza,” Dr Parat said.
