AFL clubs air frustrations over career-affecting drug tests
The AFL is being urged to take a stronger stance against player drug use, with a number of high-profile recruits facing criminal charges, while big questions are being asked of Australia’s drug testing body and their ability to deliver results.
Carlton has revealed recruit Elijah Hollands is facing a charge of possessing an illicit substance from when he was a Gold Coast player, while Melbourne utility Joel Smith has received a provisional suspension.
Nine News sports reporter Paddy Sweeney told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings it’s not the first time concern has been raised over how long it takes for drug sample results to be released.
“I don’t have the answers and the AFL doesn’t have the answers; it’s basically up to Sports Integrity Australia,” Mr Sweeney said.
