Doctors are calling on governing bodies to take action on CTE through five action points, which includes a recommendation that low or no contact versions of sports are played by those under the age of 14.

Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia have issued a position statement which urges the federal government to adopt the recommendations of a Senate inquiry into sports related head trauma.

RCPA spokesperson Associate Professor Michael Buckland told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings there is undoubtedly a causal link between exposure to repeated head impacts and later in life neurodegenerative disease.

“Now we have this knowledge, we need to act on it,” Dr Buckland said.
