Mining magnate Gina Rinehart has called on Facebook and parent company Meta to do more in combating scam adverts using images and AI generated voices of Australia’s richest and prominent people.

Rinehart’s company are battling against the scammers, but Andrew Reid from Hancock Prospecting Group said his team are struggling to keep up with the increased amount of scams.

“Three years ago We were dealing with 200 Facebook scams per year, now we’re getting over 36,000 per year from Facebook”, Mr Reid said. 

“An 18,000% increase, it’s nuts”.
