Looking at buying a hybrid vehicle? Well you might be re-thinking your budget, as the federal government is set to slug a 33 percent luxury tax aimed at tightening what cars are “fuel efficient”.

Motor Trades Association WA CEO Stephen Moir accused the government of a “tax grab”, he told Jamie Burnett on 6PR Perth Live this isn’t the time to be discouraging people from buying a hybrid vehicle. 

“This is going to raise an additional $150,000 million from taxpayers, I don’t think there is any other way to cover this but it is a tax grab and it’s going to hit people where it hurts”, Mr Moir said. 

“They seem to be sending very mixed messages but this is nothing more then a very callous tax grab”
