If you’re like a few of the 6PR staff in that you have a room full of CDs you were sure would increase in value, you may be in for a bit of luck.

For the first time since 2001, the oft-maligned physical medium of the humble Compact Disc has increased in sales over the last year.

The stunning trend shift exemplifies rapid change in the music industry, and potentially a push away from streaming, as futurist Ben Hamer described to Sean Cowan on 6PR Mornings.

“Just as more of our lives are going online, we’re seeing the rise of artificial intelligence and all that stuff; we’re seeking out these really tangible experiences, things that we can touch and things that we can hold,” Doctor Hamer said.
