Another major announcement, another gaff… at least, that’s what meant want you to think.

City of Perth Lord Mayor and former 6PR presenter announced his candidacy for the seat of Churchlands over the weekend, and during the preparation for the press conference made a comment that has gone viral online.

But 6PR’s entertainment reporter Peter Ford told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast he had done a quick poll of the response from media organisations around the country, who had largely denied any controversy.

“I know he’s copped criticism in the past, but I thought they were really just coming after him over the weekend,” Mr Ford said.

“I don’t buy what they are selling.”

On 6PR Mornings, Gary Adshead opined the tumultuous social media storm that built over the weekend, deeming the whole event a storm in a teacup over mistaken context.

“Whenever there’s a camera and a microphone around you should always be very careful when having off-the-cuff chats with people around you,” Mr Adshead said.

“Especially in this day and age when social media has the ability to be judge, jury and executor by completely abusing the actual context of the conversation..”

Mr Adshad talked to Notre Dame Professor of Politics Martin Drum about the fallout from the weekend, as well as the loaded tension behind the PM getting booed at the Australian Open.
