A dietitian has flagged concerns around a practice dubbed the ‘monk diet’, which sees people go without food for 36 hours.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has recently adopted the diet, while 6PR Breakfast co-host Karl Langdon also decided to try it on Tuesday!

Dietitian and Healthy Life CHO Simone Austin said the practice could compromise “mental wellbeing”, especially if the meals skipped meant missing out on social or family gatherings.

“One of them is mental wellbeing – food provides more than just nutrients,” she told 6PR.

“It’s really enjoyable to eat. If you’re not eating for 36 hours, are we missing social events or sitting at the table with your family.”
