The AFL is eager to conduct brain scans on players when they are drafted, as part of a set of measures aimed at mitigating the risks linked to concussions.

Concussion researcher and director of Concussion Legacy Foundation Australia Professor Alan Pearce told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live, “It’s something that has been talked about for quite some time.”

“Having an angle baseline of scanning during the career of an AFL from draft to when they retire and possibly even beyond would be a good thing to implement.”

“If there are measures we can use now to try to assist players and help understand some of the characteristics that can contribute to what we are seeing, I can only see it as a good thing,” Professor Pearce continued.
