Renters endure a scorching summer as homes overheat
During the summer, numerous renters nationwide endured uncomfortably high indoor temperatures, with homes averaging 25 degrees.
Better Renting Executive Director Joel Dignam told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live, “It’s been a pretty rough summer for people renting in Perth, to give you a sense, the rental homes were spending about 16 hours a day above 25 degrees Celsius, and the healthy range you want to be sitting in is 18 – 24 degrees.”
“Unfortunately, the trend is things are going to get hotter and so the rental homes are barely coping already. It doesn’t paint a pretty picture for the future.”
“This is not something that renters can solve for ourselves, and it is going to need the state government and Commonwealth to play more of a role in creating some minimal rental standards,” Mr Dignam continued.
