People are working for longer with the age of retirement rising, but older people are still struggling to get jobs according to new statistics.

Data from KPMG shows the average Aussie male is not expected to retire until they are at least 64 years old; the highest retirement age since 1972, while for women it’s just under 65.

Council of the Ageing CEO Patricia Sparrow told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast it’s still not easy for those over 50 to get jobs.

“One in three recruiters won’t consider employing someone over the age of 50, so there’s still work to do, even if some people might be working later,” Ms Sparrow said.
