“Put the offer to your members:” Teachers union strike to proceed after deal rejection
Members of the State School Teachers Union are preparing for strike action tomorrow over the latest offer from the government. The Teachers Union has rejected the state governments current deal of an 11 per cent pay rise over three years.
They’ll hold a march and rally before heading back to school for the afternoon with 22 schools planning to close completely and 62 to partially shut down.
President of State School Teachers Union of WA Matt Jarman told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings there are a variety of issues they are looking to address, it’s not just about salary.
“We’ve had a lot of reports in public education in the last 12 months, highlighting those through bargaining but we didn’t see anything in the second offer that was going to workload reductions of our members which was the key point of the claims,” Jarman said.

Director General of the WA Education Department Lisa Rodgers told Gary Adshead shortly after the previous interview, she will continue to work with the union but is disappointed that the offer wasn’t put to the teachers to vote on.
Ms Rodgers stated that the offer had a pay component but also addressed things the union was asking for, such as the workload.
“I absolutely support our teachers receiving the conditions and pay they deserve, I am very aware of the issues in schools and they have got one of the most important jobs across the workforce…I would like the union to speak to their members in regards to the package,” Rodgers said.
