Increase in grandparents as carers having positive impact on screen time
Grandparents are increasingly becoming the primary childcare providers for families with a new study finding they are having a positive impact on children’s screen time.
Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne Michelle Jongenelis told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the increased demand for grandparents as carers is due to “a shift of mothers increasingly returning to the workforce, coupled with formal childcare becoming very expensive.”
Jongenelis said there is still room for screentime but more adaptive versions of it, as long as it is educational or encourages movement.
