Backstories: Renowned Plastic Surgeon Professor Fiona Wood’s journey to becoming an innovator and leader in her field
Renowned plastic surgeon, known for her work in developing spray-on skin, Professor Fiona Wood joined 6PR Afternoons for Backstories.
Born in the north of England, Professor Wood began her medical career at St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in London, before moving to Australia in 1987.
Professor Wood’s journey of expanding her knowledge in improving outcomes for burns patients began in 1991 when she was trained as Western Australia’s first female plastic surgeon.
As the Director of the Burns Service of Western Australia, professor Wood is recognised internationally as a leader in her field, and as a national treasure in Australia.
