What was the Perth boom?

People across Perth have reported hearing a loud bang this morning, however there’s no clear explanation for what it was.

All relevant emergency services have ruled out knowledge of the source of the sound.

Speculation is that Singaporean aircraft conducting training exercises off our coast may have broken the sound barrier creating a sonic boom.

Another theory centres around the boom being a meteoric event.

Curtin University’s lead scientist for the Desert Fireball Network, Hadrien Devillepoix, joined Oliver Peterson on Perth Live to explain the theory.
