GP referrals to be scrapped under proposed healthcare shake-up
Health workers like physios and midwives would be allowed to make referrals without sending patients to a GP under the recommendations of a year-long review into healthcare workers being considered by the Federal Government.
Nine Network’s Medical Expert Dr Nick Coatsworth spoke to 6PR Radio’s Perth Live presenter Oliver Peterson and said he didn’t think it was a good idea to scrap GP referrals entirely but he understood the intention to broaden the number of health professionals that can refer patients to specialists.
