The overseas-owned Australian Venus Company, which owns over 200 Australian pubs, has decided not to recognise Australia Day. This includes a long list of popular pubs in WA.

In a statement from Australian Venus Co., it reads, ‘Australia Day is a day that causes sadness for members of our community.’
6PR Breakfast hosts discussed the decision and asked local pub owner Geoff Ogden of the Windsor Hotel for his views.
“I don’t know if the direction is coming from overseas, but it’s a weird thing to do on Australia Day,” he said.

6PR’s Gary Adshead continued the discussion with Indigenous leader Warren Mundine.
“Stop telling your staff and stop telling Australians whether they should be celebrating Australia Day,” he said.
