Road trauma counselling struggles with counsellor shortages
Statistics show that for every person who suffers road trauma, 13 people are vicariously affected, from friends and family to first responders.
Road Trauma Support WA offers an essential service to these victims, but with ongoing strain on their mental health services, counsellors are in short supply.
Ian Holbrook from Road Trauma Support WA explained to 6PR’s Chrissy Morrissy the impact of this shortage, with the number of referrals for their service having doubled over the last decade.
“It isn’t about throwing money at the problem, and certainly, there are many services out there looking to bring more people on board to provide those services,” he said.
