Unrest in Kimberley leads to mass resignation of councillors

Five out of nine councillors, including the Deputy President, have resigned from the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley council after ongoing issues relating to financial concerns and an alleged lack of confidence in the current president.
Former Deputy President Geoff Haerewa was one of the councillors who pulled the pin and explained to 6PR Breakfast show hosts Millsy and Karl how he had been “fighting the battle” but could no longer support the president.
“He thought that staying there was the best in his mind, it was the best for the community. We thought it wasn’t. For him to stay there, consequently, it came to this stage,” he said.
