The phenomenon of shark attacks

The mere mention of the word ‘shark’ can illicit fear and there’s good reason for this. The Australian coast line is the scene of half the number of shark attacks than the USA yet twice as many fatalities occur as a result.

Is this because Australia is home to 180 different species of sharks, is it global warming or over fishing and how can we decrease our chances of being attacked?
