Heritage registered post on its way
A local mail and history enthusiast has been trying to get a 142-year-old pillar post box in Bassendean on the State Heritage Register for the past three years, but after the long wait it may be added in just a couple of weeks time.
Gerry Coleman has been fighting for one of just a handful of pillar post boxes still in working order in WA and says many well-known West Australian’s would have used the sturdy postal box.
Mr Coleman told 6PR Breakfast why it’s so important to retain this piece of history.
