The West Coast Eagles have secured second spot on the AFL ladder and two home finals after their 26-point win over the Brisbane Lions at the GABBA on Sunday. The Eagles will meet with Collingwood in the Qualifying Final in the first week of the finals.

The Lions brought the game up to the Eagles in the first quarter with the lead changing hands six times in the opening term, but West Coast kicked four goals to the Lions nil in the second quarter to lift their chances, and finish the game 14.14 (98) to 11.6 (72).

Jack Darling was able to play for the Eagles after he suffered concussion in the first quarter in their loss to the Melbourne Demons last week, and it was worth the wait, Darling kicked four goals. Dom Sheed clocked up 30 disposals in the win.

“That’s massive for us, top two gives us two home finals, with all the travel we do throughout the year it’s a little bonus at the end of the year and a bit of a reward,” Jack Redden told 6PR after the win.

“This is what we were aimed for and a nice reward for a fairly descent season on our behalf, but plenty of work to do from here on in,” Luke Shuey told Shane McInnes after the win.

“I thought in the second quarter we really got on top of the contest and field position from the contest was critical for us,” West Coast Coach Adam Simpson said after the game.
