Critically acclaimed author Tom Gilling’s new book The Lost Battalions tells the little-known story of two Australian battalions abandoned on Java during World War II.

Until now the story of the more than 2000 soldiers forgotten in Java was not one included in the collective memories of the war in New Guinea – drawing on diaries, documents, and interviews with survivors, Tom constructed their narrative. He joins us tonight to tell their story.
