Calls to scrap NAPLAN
The Gonski Institute for Education has recommended to the Council of Australian Governments’ (COAG) to scrap NAPLAN testing and replace it with sample testing of students across Australia.
There’s little evidence the now ten-year-old NAPLAN has improved outcomes for students. It has instead been leading to significant negative consequences for students, teachers and schools. It has led to increased student anxiety, teaching to the test and narrowing of the curriculum.
Director of the Gonski Institute for Education, Professor Adrian Piccoli spoke to Oliver Peterson today where he explained that NAPLAN was never intended as a school ranking test.
