The Esperance community is mourning the loss of local farmer Kim Curnow who died while trying to warn neighbours of the fire.

Kim ‘Freddy’ Curnow was driving door-to-door warning neighbours that the fire was fast approaching when the wind changed and he became trapped in his vehicle. 

Glen Quinlivan has known Freddy since they were children and says that he died the way he lived – helping his community.

He spoke with Gareth Parker.
