Australia’s oldest checkout chick has been invited to Coles Annual General Meeting to inspire her fellow employees and employers.

87-year-old Brenda Palmer started working at her local Coles in 1967 and says the biggest change over the years has been the introduction of bar codes.

But she says the customers are just as nice as they used to be.
“Yes they are; they’re not as patient, mind you,” she told Steve and Baz.
“In the old days, paying for something was far more difficult, as you know.”

Our Melbourne colleague, 3AW reporter Donna Demaio, was a former Coles staffer who remembers working Brenda.

We worked together for about eight years way back when, and when I talked to her this morning, she remembered how old I was when I started working at Coles. Isn’t she extraordinary,” Donna says.
