West Aussies are some of the biggest users of Airbnb – “we need to protect it”
The State Government says it’ll adopt nearly all of the 10 recommendations from last year’s parliamentary inquiry into the short-stay accommodation industry.
The response will include the development of a simple, cheap and flexible registration process for accommodation providers.
The inquiry was called to consider what was regarded as outdated and inconsistent policy, and create certainty for the tourism industry, accommodation providers and guests.
Airbnb’s Head of Public Policy for Australia Derek Nolan told Oliver Peterson the company wants to work collaboratively with the WA Government to develop “best-in-class, statewide rules”.
“Over 400,000 West Australians checked-in to an Airbnb in WA in 2019.
“It’s something WA citizens like and I think it’s something we need to protect, but we need to get regulation right to make sure community amenity is protected.”
