The JobKeeper and JobSeeker benefits have been extended for another six months, but a stricter eligibility criteria will apply.

The $1500 JobKeeper wage subsidy will be reduced by $300 from October, part-time workers will also get less.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says it’s about getting the economy moving again.

The separate JobSeeker payment will also be lowered to about $800 a fortnight.

But Opposition leader Anthony Albanese says the government must guarantee the benefit doesn’t revert to its pre-Covid rate of $40 a day

People will be required to look for work, and if they fail to accept a job, penalties will apply.
