Pools planned for WACA

Article image for Pools planned for WACA

The WACA has welcomed a cash injection by the State Government which will ensure the facility can undergo a major face lift.

The $30 million investment will go alongside the $34 million already provided by the Federal Government and Cricket Australia.

The Improvement Project will include making new high performance, training facilities, an indoor cricket area as well as a new museum and a community swimming pool.

The planned aquatic facility will include and outdoor 50-metre pool, a learn to swim pool and a leisure slide. WACA CEO Christina Matthews said this will be a “great tourist attraction.”

“This could be a real opportunity for a city based aquatic facility.”

The WACA are also looking to raise another $10 million on top.

“We’ll be doing fundraising drives,” said Ms Matthews.

“It wont stop the project if we can’t raise the money. We’ll have to make some cuts to some of the things we were going to do.

“But we are reasonably confident that we’ve got a good program in place to seek support from the community to finish this iconic ground.”
