“Play is underestimated” in Australia – the call for less homework and more daydreaming
Australia’s newly appointed National Children’s Commissioner, Anne Hollonds says the stress of the pandemic and recession is affecting kids.
Ms Hollonds told Oliver Peterson kids are worried about their families.
“They’re worried about their parents losing their jobs, they’re worried about losing their house and having to move schools.
“So mental health for kids is a very big issue.”
Ms Hollands said kids don’t have to have busy days and they are still learning “an enormous amount” just spending time with their parents or carers.
“Here in Australia we have a tendency to load up our kids’ days,
“We underestimate how important that one on one time with each child, just hanging out together, is.”
