RUMOUR CONFIRMED 

There’s been an unfortunate bungle at Joondalup Health Campus, where staff accidentally informed the wrong next-of-kin about the death of a loved one.

The issue was raised on the 6PR Rumour File on Thursday by “mistaken identity’.

An elderly person who had a heart attack at an aged care facility was brought into the hospital, but later died.

In a statement, the North Metropolitan Health Service confirmed it was given the wrong paperwork from the facility and contacted a different family by mistake.

“Joondalup Health Campus staff were very distressed to learn they had advised the wrong next of kin about the passing of their loved one after receiving incorrect patient identifying information from an aged car provider,” a spokesperson said.

“We offer our sincerest apologies to both families involved and are taking this incident extremely seriously, including undertaking a joint clinical investigation with the aged care provider about how the incorrect patient identifying information was relayed to JHC teams at the point of handover in the ED.

“Alongside the aged care provider, we will continue to engage with the families throughout the duration of the investigation.”
